b. Lesson: Point of view
c. Summary: By this point, nearly all characters from 1984 have been revealed. For this lesson, the students will be asked to pick a character (other than Winston Smith) and write an event from 1984 from their perspective.
d. Essential Content Question: How important is our right to the freedom of speech, press, religion and petition?

      • 8.32 Identify and analyze the point(s) of view in a literary work.
f. Learning outcomes
      • Students will be able to write an event from the perspective of another character by using textual evidence as to how a character might narrate.
g. Materials needed
      • Projector so that the wikispace can be projected for all of the students to see
      • Computers for each student. This class will either have to take place in a computer lab or each student will have a lap top.

II. Lesson Roadmap
a. In class activities
      • Students will choose a character other than the protagonist.
      • Students will create a word document and compile all information that they found in the previous class for that character and put it together in this document. (5-10 minutes)
      • Given that information, students will write a story from that character's perspective. (40 minutes)

      • Students will choose a character other than the protagonist.
        • The students can choose any character other than Winston Smith.




      • Students will create a word document and compile all information that they found in the previous class for that character and put it together in this document. (5-10 minutes)
        • Fortunately, the students did most of this work already during the previous class. This will show them how useful that information was.




      • Given that information, students will write a story from that character's perspective. (40 minutes)
        • The students can either write about an exact event from the text in another character's perspective, or they can create a totally new scenario. The narration must be clearly in the voice of the character that the student has chosen.




c. Assessments
      • The students will email their finished product to the teacher.
d. Homework assignment
      • Read chapter seven and eight and complete the corresponding blog.

Day 8

b. Lesson: Review for quiz 2
c. Summary: Despite the fact that students are completing the corresponding reading guide every night as it corresponds with the section they are reading, the blogs are not discussed during class until the review days. This way, this entire class can be devoted towards review. There will be time during class to finish reading the last two chapters and the blog for today. This way if the students have any questions, they can be answered before the quiz. Also, their homework load will be lessened. This lesson will take up one 45-minute class period.

      • Students will be able to brainstorm all of the symbols in the text so far.
g. Materials needed
      • Projector so that the wikispace can be projected for all of the students to see
      • Computers for each student. This class will either have to take place in a computer lab or each student will have a lap top.

      • Students will review all blog responses so far for part two (15 minutes)
      • As a class, the students will create a Webbing Tool for all of the symbols and themes of the text so far (15 minutes)
      • Students will have time to complete reading part two and complete the corresponding blog
b. Summary with descriptions
      • Students will review all blog responses so far for part two (15 minutes)
        • The teacher can scroll through the blog responses so that all of the answers can be seen up on the projecting screen.



      • As a class, the students will create a Webbing Tool for all of the symbols and themes of the text so far (15 minutes)
        • After this webbing tool is created, the web can be printed for all students and used as a study guide.



      • Students will have time to complete reading part two and complete the corresponding blog.

      • The students will be graded on their level of participation during the review session.
d. Homework assignment
      • The students will read the last chapters of section and two and complete the blog.
      • The students will review for quiz #2.
